Philadelphia Union News Release
CHESTER, Pa. - The Philadelphia Union have clinched a top four seed and first round home playoff match in the Audi 2021 MLS Playoffs. With New York Red Bulls tie against Atlanta United FC, the Union will host a playoff match at home for the third consecutive season.
"It is a great accomplishment to reach the playoffs, and one that has become a standard for this club," said Philadelphia Union Head Coach Jim Curtin. "It is expected of this team to advance to the post-season and the work has just begun. We are now going to fight to keep a top seed in the conference and to get as many home games as possible. We greatly appreciate the fans that have stuck with us all season to get us here. We hear the yelling, cheering, and chanting that has made Subaru Park an electric environment for our players and a formidable one for opponents to play in. They are truly the backbone of this club, and we will continue to work hard to make this city proud."
The Union had two regular season games left when they earned their spot this year, as they had when they clinched 2018. In 2019 and 2020 the club claimed their spot with five remaining matches, in 2016 they clinched on the last day of the regular season, and with one game left in 2011.
Philadelphia will wrap up their regular season with their last regular season match away at NYCFC on Nov. 7.
