Union to face international powerhouses Everton and Real Madrid C.F. this week

Chester, Pa. (July 19, 2011) - Atop of the Eastern Conference Philadelphia Union (8-4-7, 31 points) take a break from Major League Soccer action this week, as the club receives international powerhouses Everton Football Club and Real Madrid C.F. on Wednesday, July 20 and Saturday, July 23, respectively. Everton's visit at PPL Park will be broadcast live on Comcast SportsNet at 7:30 p.m. EST with a 30-minute postgame show. Taking place at Lincoln Financial Field, the Union and Real Madrid will kick off their international match at 9:00 p.m. EST on ESPN Deportes and ESPN3.

The Union ended their three-road game streak on a good note earning three points against the Revolution on Sunday night. Nowak's squad dominated the Revs' 3-0 with goals by Carlos Ruiz, Carlos Valdes and Sheanon Williams. The night became even more special after the two defenders, Valdes and Williams, scored their first professional goal in Major League Soccer.

On Wednesday, July 20, the Union will host their first international match of the 2011 season as they receive English Premier League Everton at 7:30 p.m. EST at PPL Park. Everton's visit will also feature a team's press conference on Tuesday, July 19 at 3:30 p.m. EST, followed by an open practice for Union season ticket holders. Three days after their match versus the Toffees', the Union will jump on the pitch again to face Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid C.F. at the Lincoln Financial Field. Real Madrid has already met against another MLS team during this leg of their preseason training, coming off with 4-1 victory over the LA Galaxy. The Spanish lion will now play Mexican Chivas de Guadalajara before visiting the Union on Saturday.

The Union Reserves fell to New England Revolution 3-1 on Monday, July 18 at 10:00 a.m. EST at Gillette Stadium with a goal by Roger Torres on a penalty kick in the first half. Philadelphia's Reserves are now 1-3-1 (four points), and will look into visiting the New York Red Bulls on Monday, August 15 at 3:00 p.m. EST.

Major League Soccer announced today that Philadelphia Union goalkeeper and captain Faryd Mondragon is among the 22 MLS All-Stars selected to compete against English Premier League club Manchester United in the 2011 AT&T MLS All-Star Game on July 27 at Red Bull Arena. The midseason showcase will be broadcast live on ESPN2, Galavision and TSN at 8:30 p.m. EST.

Philadelphia Union's Farfan twins will team up with tennis superstars the Bryan Brothers to play a mixed tennis set during Tuesday's halftime show of the Bryan Brothers' match at Villanova University's Pavilion located at the intersection of Lancaster Avenue (Route 30) and N. Ithan Avenue. The twins will split up so that each team will feature a Farfan brother and a Bryan brother and they will play a quick celebrity pro set.
