Seattle Sounders FC News Release
RENTON, Wash. - The Seattle Sounders FC and renowned artist Dale Chihuly will present an Emerald Spire to Manchester United on Wednesday, July 20 during an on-field presentation prior to the Sounders FC versus Manchester United match. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Sounders FC and Dale Chihuly entered into a five-year partnership in 2009 to create a unique piece of commemorative artwork that is presented to the club's friendly opponents.
Chihuly has created the striking Emerald Spire, based on Chihuly's Venetian series of hand-blown glass. The mirrored surface of the Venetian reflects the excellence of each team that will be hosted by the Sounders FC and Seattle. The artwork which boasts an emerald feather stands approximately 20" high and measures 5" in width at its base.
"It was a lot of fun to design and make the commemorative artwork for the Sounders FC and the visiting international teams," said Chihuly. "I'm a great fan of the organization and it's a thrill to partner with them on this exciting venture."
