Undisciplined Play Costs Broncos against Warriors

Swift Current Broncos News Release

Regina, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos (0-5-0-0) took far too many penalties against the Moose Jaw Warriors (4-1-0-0) Saturday night as the Warriors went 4-for-8 on the power play en route to a 5-1 win.

The Broncos came out of the gate with some jump, generating a few chances on goal in the opening minutes before the penalty trouble began.

Josh Davies was given a five-minute major for kneeing when he collided with Cole Jordan as the Moose Jaw blue line, putting the Broncos to the penalty kill 5:18 into the game.

Eric Alarie opened the scoring, taking a centring pass by Ryder Korczak from behind the net 8:04 into the first.

Moose Jaw got a second goal on the lengthy man advantage, but in lucky fashion. After Tate Popple was stopped off the rush, the puck deflected high in the air. Eric Houk looked to glove it down and clear the zone, but the puck went off his glove and into the net to give Moose Jaw a 2-0 lead through 20.

Cohner Saleski got the Broncos on the board early in the second, cutting to the right wing off the rush and sliding a shot through the five hole of Boston Bilous for his first of the season. Jordan Borysiuk and Owen Williams got assists on the goal.

The Warriors quickly regained their two-goal lead, when they hemmed the Broncos in their own zone after a Broncos penalty expired. Cory King eventually took a pass after coming off the bench, and beat Poulter under the blocker from the right circle to push it to 3-1.

Swift Current had a parade to the penalty box half way through the third, taking three minor penalties just 23 seconds apart to give Moose Jaw some extended five-on-three power play time.

The Warriors made the Broncos pay as Daemon Hunt scored twice in 57 seconds to push the lead to 5-1. Final shots read 41-17 for Moose Jaw.

The Broncos look to rebound against the Prince Albert Raiders (2-1-0-1) Monday afternoon in a 4:00 start.
