What can the Winterhawks take out of Thursday's game in Kennewick that will bring them success tonight?

A fast start.

The Winterhawks dominated in the shots department early and it looked as if Tri-City was struggling to keep up with their speed. Adjustments were made though and accompanied by some timely saves from Americans netminder Talyn Boyko, the tides began to turn.

What can the Winterhawks leave behind from Thursday in order to have more success tonight?

Penalty troubles.

A late third interference infraction and then two additional minors in overtime put Portland behind the eight ball late in the game. Avoiding being in that same situation once again will certainly give them a better chance at being victorious.

Another positive takeaway from the Pacific Office Automation season opener?

Vice President, General Manager and Head Coach Mike Johnston gave high praise to his rookies post-game Thursday,

"I thought the line of Bevington - Chyzowski - Nguyen was good. They had some pressure, they had some poise with the puck. They looked confident out there... It's challenging because not only was it their first game, but there were no exhibition and they only have practice to go off of the last couple months."

Thursday night will be the first of seven head-to-head meetings between the Winterhawks and Thunderbirds this season. Last season, the Hawks went 6-1-0-3 against Seattle and both line-ups will have new players on the ice.

Fans can catch the action locally on Portland's CW, online on the new WHL Live on CHL TV platform all in HD, and listen live on the Winterhawks Radio Network presented by Toyota.

Milestone Watch: Mike Johnston has a chance to secure his 400th regular season win as a Winterhawk this evening and Jaydon Dureau is one point shy of 100 in his WHL regular season career.
