Hitmen Dropped by Hurricanes

Lethbridge, AB - In their first meeting of the 2021 season, the Lethbridge Hurricane edged the Calgary Hitmen 3-1 on Friday night at the ENMAX Centre.

Justin Hall, at even strength in the first period and Dino Kambeitz, shorthanded in the middle frame, staked the Hurricanes to a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Nashville Predators prospect Luke Prokop pulled Calgary to within a goal with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation but with goaltender Brayden Peters on the bench for the extra attacker, Chase Wheatcroft found the empty net for the Hurricanes to seal the victory.

Calgary outshot Lethbridge 35-29 as 'Canes goaltender Bryan Thomson made 34 saves in a first-star performance while Peters was named the third star for turning aside 26 shots in the Hitmen net.

Calgary is now 2-3-1-0 on the young season while the Hurricanes improve to 3-3-0-0.

The two teams will resume their three-game weekend set tomorrow, Saturday, March 20th in at 7:00 p.m. start at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut'ina Nation before the finale back in Lethbridge on Sunday, March 21st at 6:00 p.m.
