Ulanski scores in final seconds, lifts Colorado

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas took another one-goal loss Friday night, losing 4-1 versus the Colorado Eagles.

It took less than two minutes for the Colorado Eagles to strike in the first period, as forward Brad Lutes notched his fifth goal of the season from the high slot. Amarillo answered two minutes later, when Colorado goaltender Mike Mole misplayed the puck behind his net. Forward David Nimmo exploited the miscue, tying the game at one. At the end of one period of play, Amarillo 1 Colorado 1.

The Gorillas flexed their muscles with a power-play goal at the 3:15 mark, as Stuart MacRae rifled his shot past Mole from the far circle. Colorado's man advantage unit would not be denied later in the frame, as CHL point leader Riley Nelson scorched a Ryan Tobler give -and-go pass for his 14th goal on the season. Gorillas netminder Mike Brown shined, stopping 15 of 16 Eagles shots in the frame. Amarillo 2 Colorado 2 after two periods.

Behind a stellar goaltending performance, the Gorillas were tied with the Eagles with 46 seconds to play. Colorado forward Kevin Ulanski became the hero, wristing his shot past Brown to give the Eagles the lead for good. Final score Colorado 3 Amarillo 2.

David Nimmo's first period goal extended his point streak to 6 games...Gorillas goaltender Mike Brown stopped 36 of 39 shots and earned the game's third star...Riley Nelson's power-play goal continues his point streak (10 games).

Amarillo will take the ice again tomorrow night, December 12th versus the Arizona Sundogs at 7pm. The Gorillas are asking fans to bring in teddy bears or other stuffed animals to throw onto the ice after Amarillo's first goal of the game. All stuffed animals being thrown during the annual "Teddy Bear Toss" will be donated to Toys for Tots. Also Saturday, the Gorillas will be giving away 1,000 rally towels. 8-year-old Panhandle "America's Got Talent" star Eleisha Miller will sing the national anthem as well. Fans who donate a toy at December home games 12th, 13th, & 19th will have the opportunity to purchase a $10 game ticket valid for the same game night. Present your toy at the Amarillo Civic Center box office or the Gorillas office on the day of the game.
