
Mudbugs Rally Past RiverKings in Weekend Opener

(Bossier City, LA) --- Bossier-Shreveport rallied from a 4-1 deficit with two goals in the second period and two more in the third in knocking off the Mississippi RiverKings 5-4 on Friday night in Central Hockey League action at Bossier City, Louisiana.
Mississippi raced out to a 3-1 lead in the first period. Bobby Chaumont stuffed in a loose puck in the crease past Mudbugs' goaltender John DeCaro just 42 seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead.
The RiverKings added to the lead nearly three minutes later on a shorthanded goal scored by Kevin Cooper at 3:32, a goal that came with Matt Pierce in the penalty box.
Bossier-Shreveport cut the margin in half with a goal from Jeff Kryzakos at 12:02 for a 2-1 RiverKings lead, but Ryan Held banged in a rebound of a shot from Nathan Schwartzbauer with 1:41 remaining the first period for a 3-1 lead after twenty minutes of play.
In the second period, Ryan Campbell gave the RiverKings back a two-goal lead when he scored on the power at play at 9:22 of the session for a 3-1 lead.
But, Bossier-Shreveport cut into the lead with two more goals, as Joe Blaznek notched a power play goal of his own at 15:40, followed by a goal from Tyrel Lucas with 1:33 remaining in the period to make the RiverKings' lead just 4-3 going into the final period of play.
The Mudbugs took over in the third period, scoring power play goals from Justin Aikens and the game-winner from Brett Smith with 7:31 remaining for the final score.
The RiverKings lost despite out-shooting the Mudbugs by a 39-28 margin. The difference was on the power play, where Bossier-Shreveport scored three times and the RiverKings just once. Each team had five power play chances.
Kevin Beech saw his record fall to 1-1-0 with a 23-save effort, but allowed five goals. John DeCaro (7-6-0) won with a 35-save performance for Bossier-Shreveport.
