Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio - Tyler Callihan blasted two home runs to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 6-1 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels in a game shortened by rain to five innings on Tuesday night. The Dragons have won three straight games and they are 10-2 over their last 12.
A crowd of 7,080 was in attendance at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District.
Callihan, batting in the lead-off spot in the Dragons batting order after their previous lead-off man, Blake Dunn, was promoted to Chattanooga, belted the first pitch in the first inning for a home run to right field. The Dragons added another run later in the inning on an error to go ahead 2-0.
In the second inning, Dayton's Wendell Marrero drove in Justice Thompson from third with a bouncer over the second baseman into right field to make it 3-0, and Callihan followed with his second homer of the night, a long blast to right field, to give the Dragons a 5-0 lead. The homer in the second gave Callihan six on the season.
Cedar Rapids scored their only run of the game in the top of the third before the Dragons closed out the scoring in the fifth. Edwin Arroyo tripled to center field with one out and scored on Ruben Ibarra's single to make it 6-1. The game was stopped due to rain at the end of the fifth inning and could not be resumed.
Dragons reliever Owen Holt (1-2) was credited with the win. He worked two and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and no runs with one walk and three strikeouts.
