Chiefs Walk It off in Come-From-Behind Fashion

Peoria, IL- Ramon Mendoza was the hero Tuesday at Dozer Park as his 10th inning sacrifice fly walked it off for the Chiefs in their 6-5 win over the Beloit Sky Carp.
With Jimmy Crooks on second base to start the bottom of the tenth, Jeremy Rivas moved Crooks to third with a SAC bunt. After Osvaldo Tovalin was hit by Tyler Eckberg, Mendoza hit the SAC fly out to right-center field.
The last three home wins for Peoria have all come in walk-off fashion. Mendoza went 1-for-3 with two sacrifice flies, with the other coming in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at five.
Beloit put two runners on the ninth against Andrew Marrero. But Roy Garcia entered and recorded two strikeouts to get out of it. Garcia struck out the side in the top of the tenth, earning himself his first career High-A win.
The Chiefs had to dig themselves out of an early 4-0 hole. Beloit scored four runs against Peoria starter Dionys Rodriguez in the top of the fourth. Yiddi Cappe led off with a solo home run to start the scoring. After a strikeout, two singles and a walk loaded the bases. Josh Zamora singled home one run. Three pitches later, Tanner Allen drove in two with a single to make it 3-0.
Rodriguez went just 3.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, walking four and striking out one.
Peoria cut the deficit in half in the home half of the fourth against Beloit starter Jared Poland. The right-hander walked Jimmy Crooks with two outs bringing Jeremy Rivas to the plate. Rivas hit a two-run home run to make it 4-2.
Poland went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and walking just one.
The Sky Carp extended their lead to three in the top of the seventh against Edgar Manzo. Manzo, who retired the first eight batters he faced, allowed a pair of singles to put runners on the corners for Davis Bradshaw. He grounded out, scoring Watson to make it 5-2.
Peoria responded to cut the Beloit lead to one in its half of the seventh against Jake Schrand. A walk to Osvaldo Tovalin and a single by Mendoza set up a Thomas Francisco RBI double to make it 5-3. Mendoza scored two batters later via a Victor Scott groundout.
The Chiefs tied the game in the eighth against Franklin Sanchez. He allowed a single to Nathan Church and a walk to Crooks to start the inning. After a strikeout, Sanchez walked Tovalin to load the bases, which set up the first Mendoza SAC fly.
Both teams had nine hits. Church went 2-for-4 for Peoria while Cappe and Zamora each went 2-for-5 for Beloit.
The Chiefs improve to 24-28 while Beloit falls to 23-28. Game two of the series is tomorrow at 11:05 A.M.
