Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants are thrilled to announce that 1997-born forward Ty Ronning (Burnaby, B.C.) has signed a three-year entry level contract with the NHL's New York Rangers. In 2016, the Rangers drafted Ronning in the seventh round (201st overall).

Originally selected by the Vancouver Giants in the first round (15th overall) in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, Ronning has suited up in 279 career WHL games (all with the Giants). During that span, he's registered 121 goals and 90 assists for 211 points. Ronning currently leads the Giants in goals (55) and points (77). His 55 goals rank him tied for second in the Western Hockey League. On February 9th, he scored his 48th and 49th goals of the season which matched then surpassed Evander Kane's previous record for most goals in a season for a Giant. Two games later on February 14th in Portland, Ronning became the first Giant to ever score 50 goals in a season.

"I'm so thankful to my family, friends, teammates, coaches, the Vancouver Giants management and ownership group and the fans for supporting me for the past five seasons," said Ty Ronning. "It's been a lot of hard work, but it's paying off, and now the real work begins. It's an honor to sign with the New York Rangers."

Ronning adds, "I'm very excited to begin the pro hockey chapter of my life, but before that, I'm looking forward to finishing my WHL career on a positive note with the Vancouver Giants."

Ty Ronning and the Giants clinched a playoff spot on last weekend on Saturday with a victory at home Saturday against Kamloops, but they still have seven regular season games remaining - Six of which of which are on the road. The Giants kick off a stretch of five straight road games Wednesday in Kelowna against the B.C. Division leading Rockets.
