Blades Announce Plans for Don Cherry Night this Saturday

March 5, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

Saskatoon, SK - The Saskatoon Blades will be decked out with specially-themed Don Cherry jerseys for their Saturday night bout with the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings on March 10.

A live silent auction for the game-worn Don Cherry jerseys will take place during the course of the evening with a number of jerseys also available through an online auction.

Furthermore, the Saskatoon Blades have over 1,500 Don Cherry bobbleheads to give away to fans in attendance who have a chance of winning one on the night.

With more than 4,500 Canadians awaiting organ donation today - 76 per cent of whom require a kidney - the specially-themed jerseys are part of the Western Hockey League's partnership with RE/MAX, the Cherry family and the Kidney Foundation of Canada whose mission is to promote organ donation.

"RE/MAX of Western Canada is excited to partner with Don Cherry and the WHL to help promote the importance of organ donation. These themed games will be fun for fans and will help generate support for the Kidney Foundation of Canada," said Elton Ash, Regional Executive Vice President, RE/MAX of Western Canada.

Don Cherry's daughter, Cindy Cherry, will be in attendance Saturday for a ceremonial puck drop prior the game. The Kidney Foundation is a cause close to the Cherry family. Don's son, Tim, received a kidney transplant from Cindy.

"Creating awareness for organ donation in Canada is essential for the more than 4,500 Canadians waiting for a transplant," says Joyce Van Deurzen, Executive Director, Kidney Foundation of Canada (Saskatchewan). "We are grateful to the Western Hockey League, RE/MAX and the Cherry family for teaming up on this important initiative supporting Canadians whose future depends on others giving them the gift of life."

Tickets are still available and can be purchased through ticketmaster or over the phone on 306-975-8844.
