Winterhawks's Glass Named WHL On the Run Player of the Week

March 5, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Portland Winterhawks forward Cody Glass has been named WHL On the Run Player of the Week for the week ending March 4, 2018.

Glass, the first-ever draft selection in franchise history by the Vegas Golden Knights after being chosen sixth overall at the 2017 NHL Draft, registered 10 points (5G-5A) and a plus-seven rating in four games this week as the Winterhawks went 3-0-0-1 to remain hot in pursuit of first place in the U.S. Division and Western Conference.

In Tuesday's 9-0 win over the Tri-City Americans, Glass tallied a goal and an assist, repeating the same performance Friday at home in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds. Friday, he earned second star of the game honours. Saturday, the Winterhawks continued their dominance of the Americans in a 5-0 win, with Glass scoring two goals to capture first star honours for the game.

Sunday, Glass recorded a goal and four points as the Winterhawks struck back against the Thunderbirds in a 7-4 result, earning Glass third star honours for the game. The strong week extended Glass' points streak to seven games and his goal-scoring streak to five games.

Originally drafted by the Winterhawks in the first round, 19th overall, of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft, Glass continues to lead the Winterhawks this season with 89 points (34G-55A) and a plus-37 rating in 57 games. He has 15 power-play goals, one short-handed goal and four game-winning goals. He's presently in a three-way tie for eighth in WHL scoring and third among all Western Conference skaters.

The 6-foot-2, 177-pound product of Winnipeg, Man. has played in 194 career WHL regular season games, recording 210 points (76G-134A), including 26 power-play goals, two short-handed goals and 10 game-winning goals. In 15 career WHL playoff games, Glass has 12 points (5G-7A), including three power-play goals.

Still in the hunt for the division and conference titles, the Winterhawks will open a two-game set on the road against the Prince George Cougars on Tuesday, March 6 (7:00 p.m. PST).
