Prince George Cougars News Release

Prince George, B.C. - Twice he's been nominated, and twice he's won it! Prince George Cougars goaltender Ty Edmonds (1996 - Winnipeg, MB) has been named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week after beating out Devin Williams of the Erie Otters and Alexandre Belanger of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. He also took the honor in October 2013 when he beat out Philippe Cadorette of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds netminder Brandon Halverson.

"What a tremendous honor this is for both Ty Edmonds and the Prince George Cougars organization," said Prince George Cougars General Manager, Todd Harkins. "Our goaltending this season has been a huge reason for our success and we are so proud of Ty for achieving this honor for a second time in his career. We know that he'll continue to build off of this success as our season continues."

Ty Edmonds is on quite a run right now for the Cougars. He's unbeaten in regulation over his past eight starts and he's earned victories in each of his past four starts. His record is 9-4-1-0 with a league high .938 save percentage and a 1.98 goals-against-average which puts him second in the WHL. His 57 career victories place him third all-time in victories for a Cougars goaltender. He trails only Billy Thompson (64) and Scott Myers (95).

To recap his stellar week: In three appearances Edmonds posted a 3-0 record with a 0.77 goals-against-average and a .973 save percentage and one shutout. His week started with a 31 save victory Tuesday at home against the Portland Winterhawks. The next night against Portland, Edmonds came into the game in relief and turned aside all 15 shots he faced as the Cougars managed to comeback and earn a 5-3 victory. But Edmonds' best performance was yet to come. Friday night in Everett Edmonds stopped all 27 shots he faced to record his fourth career shutout (and second of the season) in a 3-0 Cougars victory over the Silvertips. Twice last week he was named second star (on December 1st and December 4th).

Tonight at home, Edmonds and the Cougars will take aim at their sixth consecutive victory when they welcome the Kootenay Ice to town for their lone meeting of the 2015-16 season. Also on the line for the Cougars tonight is their eight game regulation unbeaten streak and their nine game home regulation unbeaten streak.
