December 8, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Saskatchewan - Regina Pats defenceman Sergey Zborovskiy heads home to Moscow, RUS this week to join Team Russia as part of the selection process for the IIHF World Junior Championships.
A prospect of the New York Rangers, Zborovskiy was selected in the third round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft this past summer. The Pats' 2014 CHL Import Draft pick is on pace to set a new career high this season with 11 points (4G, 7A) in 27 games. Zborovskiy's four goals already surpass his rookie total from 2014-15.
The 6'4, 195 lbs defender suited up for Team Russia in the CHL Canada-Russia Series in November where he scored one goal in two games against Team WHL.
"I think it will be a tough camp," said Zborovskiy. "It doesn't matter how many defencemen (are invited). Everybody wants to make the team and it will be a hard, tough camp for everybody."
Zborovskiy looks to be the first Pats player to play in the tournament since Maximilian Kammerer suited up for Team Germany in the 2014 tournament. He departs from the Pats on Thursday, December 10.
