Hawks Hosting Toy Drive & Teddy Bear Toss this Weekend
December 8, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks host two of the season's biggest promotional nights this weekend at Veterans Memorial Coliseum: the KPTV Les Schwab Toy Drive on Friday and the Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss on Saturday.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early to all home games, as new safety measures in place at Rose Quarter events require everyone entering the building to go through security protocols. This will be particularly important for fans attending the Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss, as they won't want to miss the possibility of a goal early in the first period.
Details on each event this weekend are below:
Friday, December 11: KPTV Les Schwab Toy Drive, 7 p.m. in the VMC
The Winterhawks are teaming up with KPTV and Les Schwab to host their annual Toy Drive at Friday's game against Prince George. Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to the game to donate for local children in need, and the first 500 fans to bring a toy will receive a $5 gift card from Burgerville. Fans will also be able to purchase new toys on site for donation.
Friday's game is also the Fred Meyer Ham Shoot, with women 18+ having a chance to win a ham by shooting a puck into a net on the ice after the game.
Saturday, December 12: Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss, 6 p.m. in the VMC
Limited tickets remain for one of the most popular promotions of the year, Saturday's Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss game. Fans bring teddy bears and other stuffed animals to the game and throw them onto the ice when the Winterhawks score their first goal. Players will then deliver teddy bears while on visits at local hospitals, and the remaining bears will be given away to local charitable organizations just in time for the holidays.
The 2015 Teddy Bear Toss game against Prince George will also open the team's eight-game TV schedule as the game will be broadcast live on Portland's CW (KRCW- TV).
Tickets can be purchased at winterhawks.com, the Winterhawks' ticket office inside Veterans Memorial Coliseum, at the Rose Quarter Box Office, and all TicketMaster outlets, including Fred Meyer.
