Buffalo Bisons News Release
Two-time American League Most Valuable Player Frank Thomas is expected to play for the Charlotte Knights against the Buffalo Bisons this weekend at Dunn Tire Park.
Thomas accepted a rehab assignment to the Charlotte Knights on Tuesday, May 17. Charlotte will wrap up a four-game series in Ottawa tonight before coming to Buffalo for the start of a four-game set on Saturday (7:05 p.m.).
Thomas, a five-time American League All-Star, is trying to recover from a left ankle injury he suffered while fielding a ground ball on June 17, 2004. Thomas had the ankle surgically repaired on October 6 when doctors inserted a bone graft and two screws to repair the partial stress fracture. He was batting .271 with 18 home runs and 49 RBI before being placed on the disabled list on July 17 of last year.
In his 15 Major League seasons, Thomas is a career .308 hitter with 436 home runs and 1439 RBI. He has spent his entire career with the Chicago White Sox and was named the A.L.'s MVP in 1993 and 1994. Along with Barry Bonds, he's the only active player with a .300 career average, 400 home runs, 1,000 RBI, 1,000 runs and 1,000 walks.
