Gwinnett Stripers News Release
Richmond, VA - The Norfolk Tides squeezed past the Richmond Braves 2-1 Friday night at The Diamond. The Tides scored twice in the third inning and four Tides pitchers combined to hold the Braves to three hits as first place Norfolk earned a fourth straight win.
The Tides went ahead to stay when Jeff Keppinger singled Angel Pagan home after Pagan ripped a one-out triple. Keppinger later scored what proved to be the winning run on a Luis Garcia single. The Braves scored their run in the home half of the third. Jason Bourgeois singled, stole second, and scored on John Barnes single. But that would be the Braves last hit. Richmond's three hits equaled a season low.
Garcia had two hits for the Tides. Eric Junge worked 5.2 innings to pick up the win. Scott Strickland mowed down the side in the ninth to earn a save. Jeremy Ward tossed three perfect innings of relief for the Braves. Seth Greisinger took the loss. Richmond has lost a season high five straight games.
The Braves open a four game series with the Ottawa Lynx Saturday at The Diamond at 7 PM. Zach Miner will pitch for the Braves against the Lynx Dave Borkowski. For tickets or more information please call the Braves office at 359-4444 or visit www.rbraves.com.
