TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons will look for their first four-game sweep of the season as they host the Louisville Bats for the finale of their set at Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m. first pitch). Buffalo leads the series 3-0 after Jeremy Guthrie threw seven solid innings yesterday to propel the Herd to a 6-1 victory. The Bisons have now won a season-high six consecutive games and are 10 games over the .500-mark. To keep the momentum going, the Herd will turn to RHP Steve Watkins tonight. Watkins won his last outing after pitching seven strong innings in Charlotte on Sunday (Bisons 9-2 win). The Bats will counter with LHP Randy Keisler, who is third in the International League with a 2.68ERA.
IN THE TOP SPOT: With their victory last night and Pawtucket's 9-3 win over Indianapolis, the Buffalo Bisons now have the best record in the International League. Buffalo is 25-15 (.625 winning percentage), which is a half game better than Toledo (24-15, .615). The Herd also holds the top home record in the IL at 15-6 (.714 winning percentage).
GUTHRIE SOLID AGAIN: Bisons starter Jeremy Guthrie continues to impress lately. After allowing just one run on six hits in seven innings yesterday, Guthrie is now 2-0 with a 2.25ERA in his last three outings. Overall, the 26-year old is 3-4 with a 5.72ERA in eight starts.
LET'S GET FIVE: Following yesterday's win, the Buffalo Bisons are now 19-3 (.864 winning percentage) when scoring five or more runs in a game.
SHUTDOWN PEN: The Bisons bullpen has been outstanding so far this month. In 72.1 innings, Bisons relievers have posted a 2.73ERA and nine saves in May. For the season, Buffalo's pen is 12-7 with a 3.77ERA and three times as many strikeouts (126) as walks (41). The relievers have also yielded just 12 home runs in 141 innings of work.
ROSTER MOVES: Pitcher Jason Davis joins the Herd today. Davis was optioned from Cleveland after going 2-1 with a 5.56 ERA in eight games for the Tribe. Davis was 3-2 with a 3.00ERA in nine starts for the Bisons last year, joining the team from July 8-September 4. The Indians also recalled reliever Matt Miller today. Miller was 0-0 with a 0.87ERA in nine games for Buffalo.
