MOBILE, AL - Mark Thomas hit two home runs to back Justin Fitzgerald's strong six innings as the Mobile BayBears (3-3, 45-30) slugged their way past the Jacksonville Suns (2-3, 38-37) by a 9-2 final on Tuesday night from Hank Aaron Stadium.

Justin Fitzgerald (W, 7-1) dominated Suns hitters on Tuesday, finishing with a season-high 10 strikeouts over six innings of work, while only allowing one run (earned) on two hits.
Chipper Smith (L, 2-3) took the loss after allowing a season-high six runs (all earned) on five hits in five innings of work, issuing three walks and striking out five BayBears in his Tuesday night outing.
Matt Montgomery allowed two runs (both earned) on four hits, while striking out two batters in his two innings of work, while James Nygren allowed one run (earned) on two hits in the eighth inning.
The Suns wasted no time scoring on Tuesday, receiving a two-out RBI double from Brady Shoemaker to give Jacksonville a 1-0 lead after the first half inning of play.
But Mobile had its response in the bottom of the second inning, with Mark Thomas (HR, 4) hitting a two-out, two-run home run to left to give the BayBears their first lead of the game at 2-1.
Thomas (HR, 5) struck again in the bottom of the fifth inning, this time with a grand slam to center field, extending Mobile's lead to 6-1 after five innings of play. The grand slam is the first that Suns pitching has given up since July 29, 2012 when oddly enough, it was a Mobile BayBear in Kyle Greene who hit a grand slam against Jacksonville's Bobby Bramhall.
The BayBears continued their onslaught of Jacksonville pitching by adding a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, using back-to-back two-out RBI singles from Raywilly Gomez and Sean Jamieson to make the lead 8-1 in favor of Mobile.
Brady Shoemaker (HR, 5) led off the top of the eighth with a solo home run to right center, cutting Mobile's lead to 8-2.
Gerson Montilla (HR, 3) responded with a leadoff homer of his own to begin the bottom of the eighth inning, giving Mobile a 9-2 edge over the Suns and capping off the scoring for Tuesday's ballgame.
The Suns and BayBears will be back at it on Wednesday, with first pitch set for 12:05 p.m. CT (1:05 p.m. ET). The Suns will send out right-hander Jay Rogers (2-2, 5.34) while the BayBears will counter with a right-hander of their own in Bradin Hagens (6-3, 4.28).
Suns fans can listen to Wednesday's game on the Suns Baseball Network, 94.1 WSOS-FM or through www.jaxsuns.com, MiLB.com or the Suns iPhone or Android app, beginning at 12:50 p.m. ET with the Memorial Hospital Suns Pregame Show.
