Mobile BayBears News Release
MONTGOMERY, AL -- The Mobile BayBears (44-30) dropped their series finale against the Montgomery Biscuits (37-38) falling 7-5 in an eight-inning, rain-shortened game Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium. With the game tied at 5-5 and two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Ryan Brett delivered on a two-run single with the bases loaded to give the Biscuits the 7-5 lead. When the inning came to a close with the third out in the next at-bat, so did the BayBears comeback chances as heavy rains stopped play before the top of the ninth and eventually ended the game.
Montgomery took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Luke Malie tripled, driving in Taylor Motter and Cameron Seitzer plated Malie with a towering two-run homer to right. The BayBears and Biscuits traded runs in the fourth inning when Mobile plated three runs with the help of a Raywilly Gomez's RBI single. Mark Thomas drove in Gomez with an RBI ground-out and Evan Marzilli tied the game at 3-3 with a RBI base-hit driving in Garrett Weber.
The Biscuits posted a run in each the fourth and fifth innings to take another two-run lead but Mobile posted a run in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to set up the 5-5 tie going into the eighth inning.
The loss was credited to LHP Patrick Shuster (2-2) who faced one batter in the eighth inning when he walked Seitzer and then Seitzer scored the go-ahead run on the single from Brett. BayBears RHP A.J. Schugel (3-1) had to settle for his second straight no-decision. The righty allowed five earned runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out seven in six innings on the mound.
Despite the Mobile loss, both Sean Jamieson and Tom Belza extended their hitting streaks as Jamieson finished 2-for-4, hitting safely in his 10th straight game while Belza also finished 2-for-4, pushing his hit streak to 12 games.
Mobile returns to Hank Aaron Stadium for a five games series against the Jacksonville Suns starting on Tuesday, June 24, at 7:05 PM.
