
Peraza to Appear in Futures Game

PEARL, MS -- As announced by Major League Baseball Tuesday, Mississippi Braves infielder Jose Peraza was named to the 16th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game World Roster. The annual event, which takes place on July 13, features the top minor league prospects as part of All-Star Sunday at Target Field in Minneapolis.
Peraza, 20, was promoted to Double-A Mississippi from High-A Lynchburg on June 19 to start the second half of the season. In five games, Peraza is hitting .522 (12-23) with a double, triple, homer and five RBI. The second baseman is slugging .783 and has posted multi-hit games in three of the first five games.
The Venezuelan was hitting .342 through 66 games at High-A Lynchburg prior to his promotion last week. He had 27 RBI and 35 stolen bases with the Hillcats. Ranked by Baseball America as the Braves sixth-best prospect, Peraza was selected as a 2014 Carolina League Mid-Season All-Star. He was signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2010.
Also representing the Atlanta Braves organization on the Futures Game World Roster is former M-Braves catcher Christian Bethancourt. The Panamanian is hitting .265 with 11 doubles, a triple, three homers and 30 RBI in 59 games at Triple-A Gwinnett. Bethancourt spent time with the Double-A Braves during the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
The 2014 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game is televised live on the MLB Network and MLB.com Sunday, June 13 at 5:00 PM EST. The game is the first event during three days of all-star festivities at Target Field, culminating with the 85th MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 15.
Tonight the M-Braves continue a five-game series against the Birmingham Barons, four game at Regions Field and the annual Rickwood Classic Wednesday at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham. The M-Braves return to Trustmark Park for a five-game series against the Huntsville Stars June 29 through July 3.
The Mississippi Braves baseball team is the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since making the move from Greenville, SC, in 2005, over 85 M-Braves have gone on to play in the big leagues.
