Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
SALEM, Va. - The Salem Red Sox swept aside the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Sunday thanks to two huge innings in a 15-7 thumping from Haley Toyota Field.
The Red Sox (11-12) jumped out in front in the first inning on Myrtle Beach (7-17) starter Alex Lange (0-4) with seven runs. After the first batter struck out, eight straight batters recorded hits against Lange to knock him out of the ballgame. Seven different players picked up an RBI in the inning for the Sox.
Trailing 7-0, the Birds found the scoreboard in the top of the second when Aramis Ademan doubled home two runs to pull within 7-2.
That score remained until the sixth when Grant Fennell , who picked up three hits on the day, laced an RBI single to make it 7-3. Ademan then crushed a three-run homer, his second of the season, to cut the deficit to 7-6. Ademan drove in a career-high five runs on the day.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jarren Duran drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in a run for Salem and give them a 8-6 lead.
The flood gates opened in the bottom of the eighth for the Red Sox when they plated seven more runs. Those tallies came on five hits and three Pelicans' errors to make the score 15-7.
Jhonathan Diaz (2-1) earned the win for Salem, throwing five innings, while Eduard Bazardo saved his second game of the season with three innings to close things out.
