Frederick Keys News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC. - A tight game slipped away from the Frederick Keys (9-14) in the series finale 2-1 to the Winston-Salem Dash (13-11) on Sunday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. With the score tied 1-1 in the seventh inning, Zach Remillard drew a full-count walk to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a groundout and moved to third after a wild pitch by Cameron Ming (1-1), ultimately scoring the winning run on a sacrifice fly from Tate Blackman. The loss capped a 1-5 road trip against two Southern Division opponents.

Frederick's lone run came in the second inning off of Jake Ring's second home run of the season. The 1-0 lead was all Cody Sedlock needed to operate, spinning consecutive scoreless frames while keeping his pitch count low. He cruised through five innings until Luis Robert came to the plate and golfed a low fastball into the left field blenchers to tie the game 1-1.

The Keys had a chance in the top of the seventh inning. Singles from Stuart Levy and Yeltsin Gudino put runners on first and third with one-out, but Levy was thrown out at home by Blackman, the third baseman. Frederick was just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and were 7-for-25 in that situation during the three-game series.

In the eighth inning, the Dash threatened again when Robert and Nick Madrigal worked back-to-back walks off Ming, who was pulled after that. Entering the game with runners on first and second, Diogenes Almengo was effective retired the next two batters to keep the Keys within a run.

Sedlock had another fantastic start for the Keys but did not factor into the decision. He earned his first quality start of the year, allowing one run on three hits, two walks and six strikeouts in six innings. His counterpart, Blake Battenfield, recorded his fourth quality start after posting the same line as Sedlock.

The Keys travel home to take on the Wilmington Blue Rocks for a four-game series starting Monday, April 29. That evening, Cal Ripken Jr. will visit Nymeo Field to receive a check from the Plamondon Companies/Roy Rogers during a pre-game ceremony on behalf of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. RHP Brenan Hanifee (1-2, 8.50 ERA) takes the mound against RHP Jackson Kowar (1-0, 2.05 ERA) with first pitch slated for 7pm. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app.
