Two quarterbacks added to Esks' mix

(Edmonton) The defending Grey Cup champion Edmonton Eskimos announced today the signing of former University of Maine quarterback Jake Eaton and former University of Arizona quarterback Jason Johnson.

Eaton comes to Edmonton after an impressive four-year, 40-game career at University of Maine. Eaton finished with 7,145 career passing yards, 58 touchdowns and a school record .595 completion percentage (569-957). He also racked up 937 yards on the ground and scored 19 touchdowns becoming just the second quarterback in school history to rush for 10 or more touchdowns in a career.

Johnson, a five-year business management major racked up some impressive numbers of his own in his final two years as the Wildcat's starter. The two-time All-Conference quarterback completed 58.3 percent of his throws in 2002 for 3,327 yards and 16 touchdowns. That followed after his 2,347 passing yards and 19 touchdowns in 2001. Johnson graduated as Arizona's single season record holder in passing yards, completions, attempts and also hold individual game records in each of those categories as well. He threw the PAC-10's longest touchdown pass in conference history in 2002 (99 yards).

Johnson was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Buffalo Bills in August 2003 and was released in September.
