WINNIPEG, MB â Offensive tackle Jermese Jones returns to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers lineup for his 3rd CFL campaign and his 2nd with the Big Blue. The football club signed Jones today.
Jones (6-5, 337, Virginia '01, DOB: Dec. 11, 1978 in Durham, NC) is an impressive lineman who provides great protection.
THE CFL YEARS â 2003 â WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS
The Blue Bombers called upon some talented relief help for their battered offensive line when they contacted talented tackle Jermese Jones.
The Blue Bombers originally added Jones to their roster, July 20, 2003. He came to Winnipeg after seeing action with the British Columbia Lions in 2002.
Jones played in seven regular-season games as well as the 2003 West Division Semifinal.
THE CFL YEARS â 2002 â BRITISH COLUMBIA LIONS
Jones joined the Lions late in the 2002 campaign. He played in the club's final two regular-season games as well as the 2002 West Division Semifinal. He returned to the Lions in 2003 but was released during training camp.
THE NFL YEARS â 2002 â PITTSBURGH STEELERS
The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Jones as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2002. He attended the Steelers training camp that year but was released.
THE COLLEGE YEARS â VIRGINIA CAVALIERS
Jones played four years of college football with the University of Virginia Cavaliers, starting his last two seasons at offensive tackle. He was one of seven true freshmen to play for the school in 1997. An anthropology major at Virginia, Jones was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference All-Star as a senior in 2001.
THE HIGH-SCHOOL YEARS â HILLSIDE HIGH SCHOOL â DURHAM, NC
Jones was a four-year letterman at Hillside High School in Durham, North Carolina. He starred on both the offensive and defensive lines at Hillside. SuperPrep Magazine named Jones to its All-American Team, as did Schutt Sports. He was a First-Team All-State selection on offence in his senior season.
