Two Pelicans To Compete in Home Run Derby

The Pensacola Pelicans along with broadcast partner NewsRadio 1620 are pleased to announce the 2009 American Association All-Star game will be broadcast LIVE on NewsRadio 1620. The All-Star Game will be played on July 21, with first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Before the main event, Pensacola Pelicans Antoin Gray and Chase Burch will participate in a Home Run Derby beginning at 5:30.

Antoin Gray currently leads the Pelicans in homers, with nine. The starting second baseman for the South Division has driven 53 RBI on the year, second best in the league. He's batting .316 and his 12 doubles this year are tied for the team lead.

Rookie Chase Burch has led the Pelicans in long balls for most of the season, but his eighth dinger was surpassed by Gray's ninth fence-clearer on July 16. Burch is having a phenomenal first season, currently ranked third in the league in batting average, hitting .346. He is second in the league in both slugging percentage (.551) and on-base percentage (.461), and is tied for the team lead with 12 doubles.

NewsRadio 1620 is the flagship station of the Pensacola Pelicans. The All-Star broadcast begins at 7:00 p.m. with player interviews and pre-game coverage of the festivities surrounding the event. Produced by SkipStarSports and Airhogs Baseball, the All-Star game is scheduled to begin at 7:35 p.m. In addition to the All-Star game on July 21, all remaining Pelicans games can be heard on the 1620 AM station.
