INDIANAPOLIS - Ka'ai Tom ripped a two-out, go-ahead triple in the sixth inning to push the Clippers to an 8-6 victory over the Indians on Saturday night. Indy held 3-0 and 5-4 leads in the crucial IL West matchup but couldn't hang on to fall seven games back of Columbus in the division race.

Columbus (63-48) won its second straight game for just a second time since the All-Star break thanks to a three-run sixth that turned a 5-4 deficit into a 7-5 lead. With two on and two away, Tom greeted southpaw Blake Weiman out of the bullpen with a triple past Tribe first baseman Hunter Owen into the right field corner. Tom later scored on Jake Bauers' third hit of the game.

The visitors added another run in the seventh without recording a base hit. Yu Chang reached second base as Jason Martin dropped a line drive in center field and took third base on a groundout to first. He then scored on a sacrifice fly by Mark Mathias.

Indianapolis (56-55) threatened after the stretch, bringing the potential go-ahead run to the plate. Ke'Bryan Hayes scored on a Martin single to left, but Steven Baron popped out in foul territory and JB Shuck went down swinging with the bases loaded.

Indy went quietly in the eighth and had a first-and-second, no-out situation in the ninth turn quickly when Hunter Owen lined out to second base with Will Craig getting doubled off on the play. Martin ended the game with a groundout to the hole at short.

The Tribe scored three times in the third off Logan Allen to build an early cushion for Brandon Waddell. Hayes and Will Craig rocketed run-scoring singles ahead of a Kevin Kramer sacrifice fly in the frame.

Columbus responded with a four-run fourth, however, one coming on a two-bagger by Mathias and two more touching home on a triple by Andrew Velazquez. Eric Haase capped the burst with a sacrifice fly to Shuck, whose throw from left to the plate saw Velazquez slide around the tag for the fourth run.

The Tribe loaded the bases in their half of the fourth, but Jake Elmore grounded a 2-0 pitch to second base for the final out. They broke through in the fifth to take another brief advantage, going up 5-4 on Owen's third Triple-A blast. The two-run shot sailed 426 feet to left-center.

Waddell (L, 1-4) was charged with six runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings pitched. He issued two walks and fanned six. Jared Robinson (W, 2-0) tossed three innings of two-run ball in relief and Rob Kaminsky (S, 1) worked a scoreless ninth for the save.

The Indians and Clippers conclude their three-game series on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. ET. Alex McRae (6-6, 4.96) will face Shao-Ching Chiang (6-7, 5.67) as Indy looks to avoid the sweep.
