Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Bats (47-65) fell to the Toledo Mud Hens (49-63) by a score of 7-5 in the middle game of the three-game series. Christian Colon went 3 for 4 on the night, including hitting his 8th homerun of the year. The teams will face off in the series finale on Sunday, with the Bats trying for their first home series win against Toledo since 2017.
Toledo started the scoring in the second, taking advantage of an error and a wild pitch to score two runs and take the lead. The Bats quickly got one run back in the bottom of the inning courtesy of an RBI-double from the hot-hitting Chadwick Tromp, his first of the season. Through 11 games with the Bats this season, Tromp has hit .400 with seven homeruns. Tromp's incredible streak of five straight games with a homerun would come to an end, officially cementing him as the new record-holder for most consecutive games with a homerun in franchise history.
The Mud Hens tagged on two more runs in the third, but the Bats again responded, this time with a leadoff triple by Blake Trahan. He would score on a sac fly from Christian Colon, reducing the deficit to two. The 4-2 score remained until the fifth, when Toledo increased the lead to 6-2. That would be all for Bats starter Vladimir Gutierrez (3-10, 6.90), who would go 5.0 innings, allowing six runs, five of them earned.
With the score now 7-3, the Bats started to rally in the bottom of the seventh, with Colon launching a two-run homer to left, closing the gap to two runs. The Bats got runners on base in both the eighth and ninth innings, but they could not string together any hits to score them. The lead would hold for Toledo, defeating Louisville 7-5. Former Bat Tim Adleman (5-4, 3.55) would get the win for the Mud Hens.
The Bats will look to take the three-game series against the Mud Hens on Sunday. Righty Tejay Antone (2-6, 5.40) will toe the rubber for the Bats. The opposing pitcher for Toledo has yet to be determined. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
