A tense 1-0 affair turned into a 3-1 win for the visitors on Wednesday.

Game #23: Portland (1) vs Seattle (3)

SOG: POR (36) - SEA (35)

PP: POR (0/4) - SEA (0/2)

Saves: Giannuzzi (32/35) - Milic (35/36)

SCORING:

SEA - 14:16 - Third Period - Jordan Gustafson (8) from Kevin Korchinski and Ty Hurley

POR - 16:56 - Third Period - Jack O'Brien (6) from Aidan Litke

The Story:

Kyle Crnkovic and Jordan Gustafson tallied two in the third period for Seattle (16-4-1-0) to help their club withstand a late Jack O'Brien tally and take a 3-1 win over the Winterhawks (17-4-1-1). Dante Giannuzzi remained solid for Portland with 32 saves, but Seattle's Thomas Milic took the win with 35 stops of his own.

Wednesday's cagey affair saw its first goal late in the opening period when Gracyn Sawchyn hammered home a rebound to give Seattle a 1-0 lead at 15:20. Neither team generated much offense through the second, and each netminder was solid when called upon throughout the evening. Crnkovic and Gustafson found twine just seven minutes apart to open up a three-goal lead in the third, but O'Brien broke the shutout bid with a strong effort play at 16:56 of the final frame. With Giannuzzi pulled for the extra attacker, Aidan Litke put a shot on net that rebounded out to the high slot, where a diving O'Brien chipped home Portland's only goal of the evening.

The Winterhawks are back in action on home ice against the Victoria Royals for the Fox 12 / Les Schwab Tire Centers Toy Drive this Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:00 P.M.

QUOTE OF THE NIGHT presented by BBF TECHNOLOGIES:

"I think everybody knows that we're a good team and what we can do, we're just going through a bit of adversity right now. (Adversity is) not a bad thing early on in the season, but we can hopefully get away from it this weekend."

Winterhawks defenseman Luca Cagnoni
