Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Burlington Bees 3-1 Wednesday afternoon on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Edilio Colina drove in the go-ahead run and scored on an RBI single by Alex Liddi.
The Bees (15-22) scored in the top of the third inning off Rattler starting pitcher Michael Pineda. Mike Moustakas tripled to rightcenter to drive in Wilson Tucker for a 1-0 lead. That run was the first allowed by Pineda in 21-1/3 innings. But, that was the last run Burlington would get on the day.
Wisconsin (16-19) had trouble getting to Burlington starting pitcher Eduardo Paulino as he scattered four hits and had a pair of double plays turned behind him in the first three innings. But the Rattlers finally got to him in the bottom of the fifth. Joe Dunigan, who had three hits on the day, started the inning with a double. A bunt single by Alex Meneses moved Dunigan to third. Denny Almonte knocked in the run with a sacrifice fly to right and the game was tied 1-1.
Keith Meyer, who relieved Pineda in the sixth inning, ran into trouble in the top of the eighth. The Bees loaded the bases with two outs on back-to-back singles and a walk. Jose Escalona relieved Meyer and got the final out of the frame to let the Rattler hitters get to work.
Calvin Beamon started the winning rally with a leadoff triple. Colina sent an 0-2 pitch through the drawn-in infield to center for the RBI and a 2-1 Rattler lead. Later in the inning, Liddi singled to left and Colina scored for an added cushion.
Escalona got the first out of the ninth. Then, Souza came on to finish off the Bees with a fly out and a strikeout for his first save of the season.
The final game of the four game series is set for Thursday night. Juan Ramirez (1-2, 4.28) is scheduled to be the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Burlington counters with Edward Cegarra (1-3, 1.93). Game time is 6:35pm.
