May 14, 2008 - After being shut out the night before, the Kane County Cougars returned the favor and shut out the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 2-0, on Wednesday night at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva, IL. Cougar starter Craig Italiano (5-0) held the Kernels to two hits over six innings, walked two and struck out four and Scott Deal pitched three innings of one hit baseball to earn his first save.
The Kernels were held to three hits on the night as Anel De Los Santos went 2 for 3 and Efren Navarro was 1 for 4.
Kernels starter Michael Anton (5-2) allowed a run on five hits, walked two and struck out four over 6.1 innings. Jordan Towns pitched 1.2 innings of relief, allowing a run on two hits with one strikeout.
Cedar Rapids and Kane County wrap up their four game series on Thursday night at 6 pm as Michael Davitt takes the hill for the Kernels.
