Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
TULSA, Okla. - Northwest Arkansas dropped its sixth straight game and eighth consecutive road contest by a 5-1 final score to the Tulsa Drillers on Saturday night at ONEOK Field in front of 7,221.
Northwest Arkansas (19-29) tied the game in the fourth inning. Gabriel Cancel ripped his league-leading 16th double of the season inside of the third-base bag and moved to third two batters later. Taylor Featherston singled to leftfield on a two-strike pitch from Drillers' starter, Michael Bowden (1-0, 7.24) to tie the game at 1-1.
Starter, Arnaldo Hernandez (2-2, 1.96) pitched well to begin his start, retiring the first seven batters of the game. He allowed a third-inning run on a sacrifice fly before Tulsa (27-21) unleashed a four-run fifth inning with a two-run home run and a two-run single to spoil his start.
Hernandez pitched five innings, allowed five runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
A trio of Tulsa relievers stymied the Naturals over the final four frames while left-hander, Emilio Ogando did the same. The 25-year old pitched three innings of scoreless relief, scattering a pair of hits and struck out three with one walk.
Over his seven appearances in May, Ogando owns a 0.55 ERA (16.1 IP/1 ER) with 16 strikeouts and two walks with six hits allowed. He's held opponents to a .111 average and posted a 0.49 WHIP.
The Naturals were held to just five hits in the contest; but drew three walks.
The Naturals and the Drillers will play the final game of the four-game series on Sunday, May 26 at ONEOK Field with left-hander, J.C. Cloney (0-0, 4.38) slated to make his second start of the season for the Naturals. Right-hander, Dustin May (2-3, 3.74) will toe the slab for Tulsa in the finale.
First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. with the Indigo Sky Casino Pregame Show beginning at 6:45 with the "Voice of the Naturals," Benjamin Kelly on 92.1-FM, the Ticket and the Naturals Radio Network.
