Arkansas Travelers News Release
NORTH LITTLE ROCK - Mark Trumbo's leadoff double to the rightfield wall in the final inning of the second half of Monday's doubleheader broke up Kasey Kiker's no-hit bid at Dickey-Stephens Park, while the Arkansas Travelers fell 10-0, dropping their seventh game in eight contests. Kiker (W, 5-5) finished three outs short of a seven-inning no-hitter for the Frisco RoughRiders, finishing with six innings of one-hit ball, walking three and striking out five.
Arkansas (3-8, 31-50) only sent 25 batters to the plate in the defeat, with 10 Travelers going down in a row before Trumbo recorded the Travs' first hit. Jose Diaz relieved Kiker after the hit and set the last three hitters down in order to close the game.
Frisco (6-5, 39-42) pounded Trav starter Barret Browning (L, 0-8), who left the game with no outs in the fourth innings after giving up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits and four walks.
Craig Gentry reached base four times, leading off the game with a single and scoring on a Mitch Moreland liner to right field. After Moreland stole second (1), Chad Tracy drove him in with a sharp line drive to center. Moreland then led off the third inning with a home run (4) to right field that almost left the ballpark, landing behind the berm seats in right field. Browning recovered to get two quick outs, but then the RoughRiders rallied with three hits in a row, capped by a Renny Osuna triple that scored Manny Pina and Guilder Rodriguez. Gentry walked and then stole second, and Osuna came home when Hank Conger made a wild throw. Gentry then stole third (30), tying Traveler Coby Smith for the league lead.
The game got out of hand in the fourth inning, starting with back-to-back walks to start the frame. Bryan Rembisz came on to pitch to Chad Tracy, who stepped to the plate and smashed a three-run home run (12) to left, scoring Tim Smith and Moreland. Tracy finished the doubleheader 3-for-8 with 5 RBIs. The next batter Rembisz faced was Adam Fox, and Fox belted the first pitch he saw out of the stadium (5), over the fence behind left field, giving the RoughRiders a 10-0 lead that became the final score after three and a half scoreless innings. Marco Albano and Amalio Diaz combined for three innings of one-hit relief.
Monday's doubleheader drew a crowd of 4,058. Game two lasted 2:23. Arkansas will try to salvage the series with a win Tuesday when Jordan Walden (1-4, 4.15 ERA) goes up against Frisco lefthander Michael Kirkman (1-4, 4.42).
