Tulsa Drillers News Release

For 6 ½ innings Tuesday night, the Tulsa Drillers and the San Antonio Missions were engaged in a scoreless encounter, with each team limited to only one hit apiece. That all changed in the bottom of the seventh when San Antonio erupted for five runs as the Missions went on to post a 7-1 victory over the Drillers.

The loss at San Antonio's Nelson Wolfe Stadium left the Drillers with a 3-3 record on their 6-game road trip. It also dropped their second-half record to 5-6.

Tulsa starting pitcher Chaz Roe was outstanding through the first six innings. He had allowed only two base runners, a third inning walk to Mitch Canham and a fifth inning single to Cedric Hunter that ended his no-hit bid.

The key seventh inning got started with a one-out walk to Logan Forsythe. After Lance Zawadzki singled, Cedric Hunter ended the shutout with another base hit that scored Forsythe with the game's first run. Brian Joynt followed with another single that made it 2-0 and ended Roe's night. Canham greeted reliever Tommy Baumgardner with a two-run double that increased the margin to 4-0. Before the inning was over, Michael Collins added a run-scoring double, and Luis Durango added an RBI triple to make it 6-0.

The Drillers lone run of the game came off the bat of Darin Holcomb, as he led off the top of the eighth with his fourth home run of the season.

The Missions added an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth to complete the scoring.

San Antonio starter Cesar Castillo surrendered only the one run on three hits in eight innings of work. He walked one hitter and struck out four in squaring his record at 5-5.

The loss dropped Roe's record to 3-2.

Tulsa finished with only four hits in the game that began 1:03 late because of a rain delay. It was the second straight night that rain delayed the start in San Antonio.

The Drillers will have an off day on Wednesday before beginning a 6-game homestand on Thursday against Corpus Christi. Keith Weiser (5-7, 4.69 ERA) is the scheduled starter on Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05PM at Drillers Stadium. The Hooks will counter with Andy Van Hekken (3-2, 4.66 ERA).
