MISSISSAUGA, ON - Riding high off of a victory over the Sudbury Wolves on Friday night, the Trout headed north on Sunday for a matinee matchup against the North Bay Battalion. The Trout looked to take advantage of a tired Battalion team coming off of a loss against the Barrie Colts on Saturday, and a victory the night before against the Peterborough Petes. Hoping to snap their streak of 14 straight losses against the Battalion, Spencer Martin made his third start in four days looking to continue his strong play against the troops.

Martin was tested early, as was North Bay's Evan Cormier, as the teams exchanged opportunities in the first. Zach Bratina found himself with the first real chance of the game with Martin turning him away. Cormier would counter with a great stop of his own, turning away Lucas Venuto, who walked in all alone for a shot on net. The Trout headed to the power play midway through the period, with the defensive corps firing; unfortunately they could not find a goal. The Battalion would once again counter with a power play of their own; however two big pad saves by Martin kept the game scoreless. Both Jesse Barwell and North Bay's Alex Henriksson also found themselves stopped on great scoring opportunities. Mississauga finally broke the scoreless draw late in the first as Martin made a great diving play, nearly from his own blue line, to advance the puck on the power play; Sam Babintsev would move the puck to Josh Burnside who gave Captain Bryson Cianfrone an empty net to shoot at, sending the Trout to the intermission up 1-0.

North Bay looked to answer right out of the gate in the second period, as the Steelheads headed to the penalty kill. The Trout would successfully kill the man advantage and a second infraction before finally getting a shot at even strength. A couple of bounces would keep the Trout from advancing their lead on a man advantage of their own, but Barwell would eventually extend the lead late in the period. After Venuto made a great play to find Barwell in the corner, Jesse spun and fired from behind the goal line, banking the puck off Cormier's leg and into the net. Drawing level on shots, Mississauga headed to second intermission with a 2-goal advantage,

The Steelheads wasted no time building on their lead in the third period, as just 50 seconds into the frame, Brandon Devlin would unleash a rocket of a one-timer from Bryson Cianfrone, making it 3-0 for the Trout. The dynamic pairing of Venuto and Barwell found themselves with a couple of opportunities to extend the lead further, as would Sean Day and Michael McLeod, however Cormier would turn both pairs away. With 6 minutes to go the Trout would find themselves in some late penalty trouble, giving up back to back power play opportunities. North Bay finally took advantage of the opportunity, scoring on their fifth power play to break Martin's shutout bid with 1:52 to go. Despite the goal, however, Martin would turn aside a number of opportunities with North Bay's goalie on the bench, sealing a 3-1 victory for Mississauga.
