North Bay Battalion News Release
OSHAWA, Ont. - Liam Arnsby scored at 2:51 of overtime to give the North Bay Battalion a 6-5 comeback victory over the Oshawa Generals in an Ontario Hockey League game Sunday night.
Brandon Coe scored two goals and Brad Chenier had one goal and two assists, while Kyle Jackson contributed one goal and one assist and Mason Primeau the other goal for North Bay, which tied the game in the final seconds of regulation time. Arnsby added an assist, and goaltender Cameron Lamour, making his second start with the Battalion, made 28 saves.
Arnsby fired the puck from high in the zone in overtime, and it hit Oshawa goaltender Zachary Paputsakis and sailed over him to land behind the goal line, moving the Battalion's won-lost-extended record to 8-26-0 for 16 points, fifth and last in the Central Division.
North Bay, which lost 5-1 Saturday to the Hamilton Bulldogs, completed a two-game road trip before 5,624 at the Tribute Communities Centre.
Brett Neumann had two goals and Serron Noel one goal and two assists for Oshawa. Ty Tullio and Allan McShane each provided one goal and one assist, while Paputsakis faced 36 shots for the Generals, 18-11-4 for 40 points, third in the East Division.
Coe forced overtime with his 13th goal of the season with 13 seconds left in the third period and Lamour off for a sixth attacker. Coe banked the puck off Paputsakis from beside the net to the left, with Nick Grima and Simon Rose assisting.
McShane gave Oshawa a 5-4 lead at 8:09 of the period, converting the rebound of a Tullio blast.
The Battalion, which trailed 4-2 midway in the second period, tied it on goals by Chenier, his team-leading 17th, at 10:56, just 44 seconds after Neumann netted his team-high 25th for Oshawa, and by Primeau. Chenier crashed the crease and backhanded the puck home on an assist by Luke Moncada, and Primeau got past two sliding defenders to backhand the puck behind Paputsakis at 17:20.
Noel broke a 2-2 tie at 7:49, one-timing the puck from the mid slot.
The teams split four first-period goals, with Neumann opening the scoring at 1:08 after Noel fed him off a turnover at the Battalion blue line.
Coe responded at 4:15, converting from the goalmouth after Chenier carried the puck down the left wing to the net, and Jackson, who scored the Battalion goal at Hamilton, put the puck home at 8:56 after it emerged from behind the net off a rush by Arnsby. Alex Christopoulos had the other assist, his first in the OHL.
Tullio tied it on the power play at 14:25 off a late-breaking two-on-one drive with Kyle MacLean, who drew his first of two assists. McShane also assisted on Tullio's 14th goal.
The Battalion plays host to the Sudbury Wolves at 1 p.m. Tuesday in its traditional New Year's Eve game.
