Oshawa Generals News Release
OSHAWA, ON - The Battalion stormed the gates of the Tribute Communities Centre for the final time of the season. The Generals were coming off a big 6-5 overtime win last night in Barrie against the Colts. Lleyton Moore scored late in the third to tie the bought; followed by an immediate, silky-smooth goal by Serron Noel eight-seconds into the overtime period. The Battalion also played yesterday in the Hammer, losing 5-1 to the Bulldogs.
Generals Starting Five
Forward: Allan McShane - Kyle MacLean - Ty Tullio
Defense: Mitchell Brewer - Lleyton Moore
Starting Goalies:
Oshawa Generals - Zachary Paputsakis
North Bay Battalion - Cameron Lamour
1st Period:
Oshawa came out ready to play. They only needed a 1:08 to get on the board as Serron Noel slid a pass to Brett Neumann who dented the twine giving Oshawa the early advantage.
Noel continued his dominant start to the game, often seeming to have the puck on a string while navigating through enemy territory. He made a few silky dishes to his teammates to generate scoring opportunities after his primary assist on the first goal.
The Battalion recovered quickly netting two goals in just under five minutes, from Durham-product Brandon Coe and sophomore Kyle Jackson. Putting the Gens on their heels towards the midsection of the period.
The Generals found themselves on a powerplay thirteen minutes into the period. They set up in the North Bay zone well, but an errant pass to the point forced them to regroup. On the next break in, Ty Tullio tied the game on a powerplay following a tic-tac-toe play from McShane on the wall to MacLean cross ice by the hash mark, to Tullio in the slot. Tullio launched a hard shot that initially hit the post then seemed to float in mid-air before Lamour twisted and knocked the puck in with his glove.
The period ended 2-2 with Oshawa outshooting North Bay 12-10.
2nd Period:
Giovanni Vallati was a standout on defense in this period. He stood as the last line of defense on several plays managing to halt several of North Bay's advances.
The Gennies broke the tie with a rocket of a shot that blasted off of the twig of one Serron Noel. They were set up in Battalion ground after a faceoff and Moore sent a pass to rookie Brett Harrison who slid the puck to the high slot where Noel showed no mercy on a one-time shot.
The Harrison, Noel, Neumann line struck again only two and a half minutes later later. Noel broke into the zone and dropped the puck for Harrison who promptly sent a pass to a streaking Neumann flying towards the net who tapped in his 25th goal of the season. Neumann nearly connected with Noel again later in the period sending a pass from below the opposing goal line to Noel who fired a shot that was stopped by Lamour.
North Bay answered quickly with a two-on-one break featuring Luke Moncada sped into the zone then passed to partner, Captain Brad Chenier, who managed to pull the puck from his forehand to his backhand around Paputsakis while falling after contact from Gens defender Vallati.
The game would be tied again by Mason Primeau who netted a nifty backhand on a cross crease pass from Mitchell Russell to net his eighth of the year.
The period ended even at fours, with the Generals outshooting the Battalion 23-22.
3rd Period:
This period was relatively even-keel. Each team got their chances, but Paputsakis and Lamour stood tall.
A blasted shot from Ty Tullio straight to the mask of Lamour rebounded to Allan McShane who roofed a backhand from his knees bringing tilting the board back to the boys of ShwaCity.
The line of Harrison, Noel and Neumann continued its strong play. The Gens had a great powerplay late in the period, seeing domination in the opposing zone highlighted by two hit posts, one by Tullio and the second by Neumann.
It seemed as though the Generals would skate away with the victory, but Brandon Coe would quell those hopes with 12 seconds remaining sending the game to overtime tied at five.
Overtime:
Neumann, Noel, and Vallati started the overtime against Coe, Chenier, and Moncada. The Gens controlled possession throughout the extra frame with great scoring opportunities from Tullio and Noel. But, it would be the Battalion who brought home the win with their second shot of the period from 2019 first round pick, Liam Arnsby who got his second of the season to give the Battalion their
