Meireles Scores Two in 6-2 Rangers Win over the Otters

Kitchener, ON: The Rangers (19-11-2-2) first game back at The Aud after the winter break was a win versus the Erie Otters (14-12-2-6), 6-2.

Greg Meireles scored two goals. Liam Hawel, Francesco Pinelli, Jesse Fishman, and Donovan Sebrango all scored goals of their own in the win.

Jacob Ingham saved 27 and the Rangers outshot the Otters 31-29.

Michael Vukojevic took a fighting penalty and a penalty for instigation at 3:30 of the first period. While on the penalty kill, Greg Meireles (12) capitalized on a mid-ice turnover and scored a shorthanded breakaway goal at 4:49 to make it 1-0.

On the Rangers first powerplay of the game, at 18:51, a cross-ice pass to Meireles (13) led to the co-captain firing home his second of the night off assists from Liam Hawel and Axel Bergkvist to make it 2-0.

After 20 minutes, the Otters led in shots 13-9.

The Rangers extended their lead at 13:34 of the second period when a pass from Meireles to Liam Hawel (9) in front of the net led to the game's third goal and it was 3-0.

Mike Petizian also earned an assist on the goal.

There would be no more scoring in the period. Kitchener led in shots after 40 minutes of play, 21-20.

At 7:07 of the final frame, Declan McDonnell and Graham Dickerson hooked up with Francesco Pinelli (10) who reached double-digit goals as a rookie before the halfway point of the season. That made it 4-0.

Just 30 seconds later, Jesse Fishman fired a one-timer past Daniel Murphy to extend the lead to 5-0.

Joseph Serpa and Graham Dickerson earned assists on the goal.

At 10:19, Elias Cohen got the Otters on the board to make the game 5-1 midway through the period.

With just over two minutes left in the game, Emmett Sproule added another for the Otters. That made it 5-2.

At 18:35, Donovan Sebrango (3) put the game to rest when he netted another for the Rangers and it was 6-2.

The final shots on goal were 31-29 for the Rangers.

The Rangers return to action on the on Tuesday, December 31 at 6:00 pm versus the Erie Otters. The next Rangers home game is on Friday, January 3 versus the Saginaw Spirit at 7:30 pm.
