OHL Kingston Frontenacs

Fronts End Decade with 4-2 Win over Steelheads

December 29, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kingston Frontenacs News Release

The Kingston Frontenacs got a huge win on Saturday in Mississauga that stopped a four-game losing slide and drew them closer to the Steelheads for the final playoff position. The win was more impressive in that the team came back after getting down early on the road and didn't back off.

Just 1:31 into the game it was 1-0 Kingston as Nic wong scored his ninth on a beauty shot over the right shoulder of Steelheads starter Kai Edmonds. Dustin Hutton and Francesco Arcuri assisted on the play. The assist extends Arcuri's point streak to five games.

One minute later at 2:31, it was the Steelheads with the quick-strike reply to tie it 1-1 on a goal that Kingston starter Ryan Dugas may want to have back. Duncan Penman beat Dugas with a backhand that snuck between the goaltender and his post on the short-side. Mississauga almost went up a goal a minute later hitting the post. Dugas was strong keeping Kingston in the game late in the first period making six saves in under three minutes late in the frame. Maddox Callens had a great opportunity to put Kingston back up after Dawson Baker centred a pass to the rookie in the slot, but Edmonds made a good save but the teams headed to intermission all squared up.

The second period had Baker continue his great offensive season scoring his 14th in a repeat of an early period goal like the first scoring this time 37 seconds after puck-drop. Putting Kingston up 2-1, the unassisted goal by the veteran was a huge swing for the team setting the pace back into Kingston's favour. Baker sits third in team goals just five back of team leader Zayde Wisdom.

Defenceman Lucas Peric provided some offence from the blueline with a goal at 3:17 to put Kingston up 3-1 and give them some breathing space. Kingston was holding the Steelhead attack down giving up only two shots in the periods first half. The teams traded powerplay opportunities late in the frame but neither cashed in and the Frontenacs took the two-goal lead into the second intermission.

The beginning of the third saw the Frontenacs on a brief two-man advantage and a good chance but couldn't put one past Edmonds. Dugas made six saves during a penalty to Vitali Pinchuk and kept Mississauga from getting within one and it was Frasca getting his second point of the game giving Kingston more insurance. His eighth of the year was assisted by Nick Wong and Jakob Brahaney assisted on the play came at 11:06.

Kingston would hold on to win though Mississauga would score a late goal as the game ended 4-2. They are now are back to within five points of a playoff spot with two games in-hand on the Steelheads.

Kingston plays next on Thursday afternoon in Ottawa at 2 PM before returning to Kingston on Friday night Jan 3rd versus the Erie Otters at 7 PM. Tickets are available at the box office or Ticketmaster.ca. We hope you are having a happy Holiday season.
