Indianapolis Indians News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY - Home runs launched by Jordan Luplow, Eric Wood and Wyatt Mathisen backed six scoreless innings from J.T. Brubaker in his Triple-A debut as Indianapolis earned a series split with a 7-1 rout Thursday night in Louisville. Indy pounded 13 hits - eight for extra bases - and stole three bags in the triumph.

The Indians (16-15) avoided a series loss to last-place Louisville by scoring twice in the sixth, three in the seventh and two more in the eighth thanks to the long ball.

Luplow's third homer of the year came with the game scoreless in the sixth - a shot to right field - immediately after Austin Meadows' second of three hits on the night.

Brubaker (W, 1-0) delivered a shutdown frame in the bottom of the sixth to cap his start. He scattered six hits and one walk with two punchouts and induced double-play balls in each of the first, second and fourth innings.

Up 2-0, the Tribe tacked on three runs before the stretch to bury the Bats in a 5-0 hole. Wood opened the seventh with a deep drive to left for his second dinger of 2018, and Meadows later plated Jerrick Suiter and Kevin Newman with a bases-loaded double to right.

After Louisville (11-19) got on the board with a D.J. Peterson dinger in the home half of the seventh, Wyatt Mathisen clubbed his first career Triple-A home run in the eighth. Mathisen's two-run blast came as a pinch-hitter, marking the first pinch-hit homer by a Tribe player since Jason Rogers on June 4, 2017 vs. Gwinnett.

Meadows, Newman and Luplow all had multi-hit performances, and Mathisen joined Meadows and Luplow with individual two-RBI efforts.

Cody Reed (L, 0-1) took the loss for the Bats after allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings pitched.

The Indians return to Victory Field for a three-game weekend series with Columbus, beginning Friday, May 11 at 7:15 p.m. ET. Tribe right-hander Clay Holmes (1-1, 4.29) will start against Clippers righty Stephen Fife (1-3, 7.90).
