Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Despite a strong display of fielding, the Louisville Bats (11-19) dropped the final game of the series, 7-1 to the Indianapolis Indians (16-15) Thursday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

Louisville southpaw Cody Reed (0-1) had a solid start on the mound, opening the game with five shutout innings despite earning the loss. Reed went 6.1 innings, surrendering eight hits and four earned runs while striking out three on 83 pitches. Indianapolis right-hander Tyler Brubaker (1-0) earned the win in his Triple-A debut, recording six shutout innings, walking one and striking out two.

Unable to get going offensively, the Bats displayed textbook fielding throughout the game. Center fielder Mason Williams and first baseman Brandon Dixon both tracked deep fly balls in the warning track in the first two frames and numerous double plays kept the score tied for the first five innings.

After a quiet first half of the ball game, Indianapolis turned up the heat in the sixth inning and kept it going for the remainder of the night. The Indians first cranked a 348 foot two-run homer into right field to take the lead, then in the top of the seventh, another homer to left followed by a line drive double made it 5-0. Their third home run of the night, and second two-run shot, came in the top of the eighth, stopping any chance of a Louisville comeback.

Third baseman D.J. Peterson was the single highlight of the Bats' offense as he smacked a striking 392 foot-homerun into center field in the bottom of the seventh.

The Bats are back at home tomorrow to begin a three-game series against the division leading Toledo Mud Hens. Louisville right-hander Robert Stephenson (1-3, 2.25) will match up against Toledo's Artie Lewicki (3-2, 5.61). First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
