Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs and Buffalo Bisons kicked off their four game series with a back and forth affair at Coca-Cola Park. Tied 5-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Dean Anna lifted a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Roman Quinn and giving the Pigs a 6-5 victory.
The Pigs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against Buffalo starter Chris Rowley in the bottom of the first. Dean Anna led off with a single off the wall before Mitch Walding belted his fifth home run of the season into right-field.
Buffalo would answer against Pigs starter Tom Eshelman in the next frame. An unearned run on a passed ball cut the Pigs' lead to one.
Leading 2-1, Joey Meneses attacked the first pitch of the second inning and drove it into the berm in left-center field. Rowley would settle in to retire the next eight Pigs that he would face.
Buffalo scratched across two runs in the top of the third inning to tie the game at three after an RBI single by Rowdy Tellez and a sacrifice fly by Jason Leblebijian. Eshelman would get out of the inning, picking Tellez of first and keeping the game tied.
After Rowley who had retired eight straight, and gotten the first two Pigs out in the bottom of the fourth. A single by Joey Meneses broke the streak and a fielding error with Andrew Pullin up put runners on the corners with two outs. Logan Moore followed lifting one high into the Coca-Cola Park sky that fell in for two run double and put the Pigs up by two. Moore's second double of the year and his first RBIs of the season.
Buffalo answered in the top of the fifth inning against Eshelman. A two-run home run by Rowdy Tellez, tied the game at five in the fifth, for Tellez it was his first of the season.
Eshelman was lifted after the fifth inning with the game tied and not in line for the decision. Allowing five runs, three earned, Eshelman remains 1-3 on the season. He struck out five and walked two in the outing before turning things over to Joey DeNato.
After a scoreless first inning, DeNeto recorded one out and allowed pair of baserunners before Austin Davis took over. Davis would strand both with strikeouts to retire the Bisons in the seventh. Davis went back out for the top of the eight and retired the Bisons in order to keep the score tied at five.
The bullpen kept the game tied heading into the bottom of the ninth combing for four scoreless innings. Tom Windle (2-1) danced out of trouble in the top of the ninth leaving runners on corners to give the Pigs a chance to win it in their last at-bat.
Seeking their first walk-off win of the season, Logan Moore led off the rally with a walk to put the go-ahead run on first. Roman Quinn would come on to pinch run and put his wheels on display. Quinn stole his IL 12th base to get into scoring positon and moved to third on a fly out by Alexi Amarista. One batter later, Dean Anna hit a sacrifice fly to win the Pigs their fourth straight game.
