Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs overcame an early two-run deficit to defeat the Pawtucket Red Sox, 6-4, on Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Spencer Kieboom had a season-high four hits, Adrian Sanchez collected three hits, and José Marmolejos knocked in three runs for the Chiefs in the win.

Pawtucket (15-16) jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second inning. With no-one out, Jordan Betts doubled, Aneury Tavarez singled, and Jeremy Barfield walked to load the bases. Mike Miller then grounded into a double play where Betts was out at home and Miller was out at first base, but Jantzen Witte followed with a triple to the right-field corner that scored Tavarez from third and Barfield from second for a 2-0 Red Sox lead.

Syracuse (16-15) scored its first run in the bottom of the second. With one out, Matt Reynolds walked and Matt Hague singled to put runners on first and second. Two batters later, with Kieboom batting, a passed ball allowed Reynolds to move to third and Hague to go to second. Kieboom then singled to left field, scoring Reynolds to cut the Pawtucket lead to one, 2-1.

The Chiefs tied the game and took the lead in the third. Rafael Bautista led off with a walk. Sanchez followed with a double, bringing home Bautista from first to knot the game, 2-2. Sanchez advanced to third base on the throw home on his double. Marmolejos then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Sanchez and give the Chiefs a 3-2 edge.

Syracuse extended its lead in the fourth. Irving Falu began the frame with a double, and Kieboom singled to put runners on the corners. Hunter Jones hit a sacrifice fly to left field that brought home Falu for a 4-2 Chiefs advantage. Two batters later, Sanchez singled to put runners on first and second for Marmolejos who hit a ball to right field for a single that scored Kieboom from second to make it 5-2.

The Red Sox cut into the Chiefs' lead in the top of the eighth. With one out, Mike Olt walked. Two batters later, Tavarez tripled to drive home Olt and trim the Syracuse advantage to two, 5-3.

The Chiefs responded in the bottom of the eighth. Kieboom and Jones both singled to put runners at first and second. Kieboom moved to third and Jones to second on a Bautista sacrifice bunt. Sanchez was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Marmolejos followed with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Kieboom for a 6-3 lead.

In the ninth, Pawtucket had runners on first and third with two outs. Mike Ohlman grounded a ball to third base that Sanchez misplayed, allowing Miller to score from third to knock the Syracuse lead to two, 6-4. Chiefs reliever Austin Adams proceeded to strike out Olt, ending the game.

Syracuse and Pawtucket continue the four-game series on Friday night. RHP Austin Voth will be on the mound for the Chiefs, and RHP Chandler Shepherd will pitch for the Red Sox. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
