Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, IN - The American Association announced today they named Gary SouthShore RailCats pitcher Karl Triana the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the second time in 2016. Triana struck out a RailCats' record 14 batters in a six-inning start on Friday night against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

Pointstreak is the official statistician for the American Association and sponsors the award. Triana won the award for the first week of June following his complete game no-hitter against Kansas City. It was the first no-hitter in franchise history. Charle Rosario also won Pitcher of the Week honors this season, with his award coming on June 20th after winning two starts in one week.

Triana threw 72 of his 106 pitches for strikes in the record-setting outing. The 24 year-old allowed four hits and three walks but did not surrender a run. His 14 K's are the highest total of any pitcher in the American Association in 2016.

The historic start wasn't enough for the RailCats, though, as they fell 7-4 in 11 innings at home. The pitching staff as a whole struck out 22 Goldeyes, one shy of the American Association record.

Triana is 4-4 on the season with a 3.50 ERA. His 105.1 innings pitched is the third most in the league and his 79 strikeouts are tied for the fifth most. The right-hander is from Cartagena, Colombia and pitched in the Diamondbacks organization before coming to the South Shore. His next scheduled start is tomorrow against St. Paul.

The RailCats are 37-36 on the season and begin a series with the St. Paul Saints tonight. First pitch is at 7:10 PM at US Steel Yard and coverage begins at 6:45 PM on 95.9 WEFM and railcatsbaseball.com.
