Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD - On Friday night against the Texas AirHogs, Ozney Guillen took a pitch off the inner portion of his left forearm, breaking a bone and ending his season. On Monday morning, the Sioux Falls Canaries released the utility infielder.

General Manager Duell Higbe explained that the release has nothing to do with Guillen's ability on the field. Rather, it's purely a business move to clear up roster space for the remainder of the year. "We wish Ozney a speedy recovery and the best of luck moving forward in his career," Higbe said.

"I want to thank everybody in the Canaries [organization] for this year. I appreciate everything you guys have done for me and my family...Now time to get healthy for winter ball. I appreciate all the thoughts and prayers," Guillen said in a post on Instagram alongside a picture of the X-Ray.

On the year, Guillen showcased his abilities across the diamond, making appearances at first base, second base, third base, and the outfield. In 67 games played in 2016, Guillen batted .241 with 11 doubles, two homers, and 21 RBIs. At the time of the injury, Guillen was watching his batting average slowly grow, as he was hitting 6-for-9 over his last three ballgames, and .250 over his last ten.
