Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL-- For the first time ever, the Florida Everblades hosted the Trenton Devils at Germain Arena. Trenton's two goals were notched during the second period, and Florida answered in the third when Mike Bayrack deflected Scott Hotham's shot passed Ryan Ginand. The lone goal sparked the Everblades, but with only one minute remaining they were unable to accomplish the comeback and Florida fell 2-1.
The Devils applied the pressure throughout the first period, but Florida's defense held firm. The Everblades' best scoring opportunity came when Mike Bayrack broke free The Devils defense and put a shot to Trenton goalie Gerald Coleman. Goaltender Barry Brust was larger than life, stopping all 11 of Trenton's attempts. Trenton took a late penalty to give the Everblades their second power-play of the game. Near the conclusion of the first, A.J. Thelen took a centering pass and blasted it towards the net, but the puck bounced off Coleman's chest. Milan Gajic caught the rebound and attempted a shot, but the puck was tangled in Trenton's skate and was brought back Florida's territory.
When the Everblades took the ice in the second stanza, they had 46 seconds remaining on the power play. The puck remained in Trenton's end until the penalty expired. Brust turned away a breakaway attempt by Ryan Ginand and the puck went back to the Devils. Ginand was undeterred and at 9:51 came back to beat a sprawling Brust and put Trenton up 1-0.
Trenton added an insurance marker at 14:23 when Tony Zancanaro lifted the puck over Brust's shoulder. Florida had an uncharacteristic scoring drought during the second period and the stanza concluded 2-0.
Florida prevented a shutout in the third when Mike Bayrack scored his sixth goal of the season. Bayrack knocked in the puck off of Scott Hotham's shot and the Everblades gained some much needed momentum. However, the swing came too late and the Devils beat the Everblades 2-1.
