Ducks' Sexton Named Meigray ECHL Alumnus Of The Month
Published on January 27, 2010 under ECHL (ECHL) News Release
Former Bakersfield Condors and current Anaheim Ducks rookie right wing Dan Sexton is the The Meigray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for December.
The leading distributor of game-worn hockey jerseys and "Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL," The Meigray Group sold more than 700 game-worn ECHL jerseys in 2008-09 and has sold more than 3,600 since it became "The Official Game-Worn Jersey Source of the ECHL" in 2002-03.
Following his call up to the National Hockey League on Dec. 4, Sexton had 11 points (6g-5a) and a plus-minus rating of +1 to help the Ducks go 6-4-3.
The Apple Valley, Minn. native had a four-game point streak (4g-3a) from Dec. 8- 16. He was named the game's 'First Star' against Dallas on Dec. 8 when his two third-period goals forced overtime and eventually a 4-3 victory. Sexton had a pair of assists in a 3-2 win over Vancouver on Dec. 16, including setting up Saku Koivu for the game-winning power-play goal in the third period.
The 22 year old began the season in Bakersfield and was selected to play in the ECHL All-Star Game after scoring 26 points (13g-13a) and 14 penalty minutes in 18 regular season games before being called up to Manitoba of the American Hockey League. Despite not playing in the ECHL since Nov. 22 he is tied for 17th among league rookies in scoring and is tied for the lead with two shorthand goals and three shorthand points.
Sexton is the third player to play for both Bakersfield and the Ducks this season joining MacGregor Sharp and Kyle Calder, who were both called up directly to Anaheim from Bakersfield. Goaltender Justin Pogge has been recalled from Bakersfield to Anaheim two times, but has not played in a game for the Ducks. Former Charlotte and Idaho goaltender Matt Zaba became the fourth player to play in both the ECHL and the NHL when he made his debut with the New York Rangers on Jan. 23.
Sexton was named the ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 16-22 after scoring five goals and nine points in four games. Anaheim reassigned him to Manitoba on Nov. 24 where he had three points (1g-2a) in five games for the Moose.
The Ducks signed Sexton in 2009 out of Bowling Green State University where he had 60 points (24g-36a) and 62 penalty minutes in 76 games from 2007-09 including a team-leading 39 points (17g-22a) in 38 games in 2008-09.
