Trenton Devils News Release
Titans Open Five-Game Home Stand With Three Northeast Division Clashes (March 18-24):
The Titans (41-15-10) took three of four points in last weekend's road trip at Wheeling (5-2 Win) and Toledo (2-3 OTL). The Titans are now eight points ahead of the second place Charlotte Checkers (37-17-10), who still have two games at hand on the Titans.
This week the Titans open up a five-game home stand with a Tuesday night battle against the Checkers. This is the fourth and final meeting between the teams with the Titans holding a 2-1 advantage, including a pair of one-goal victories in Trenton on October 19-20. On Friday and Saturday night the Titans host the Roanoke Express (33-23-10). The Titans hold a 5-1-season series advantage against the Express, including a 2-0 mark in Trenton. Both Charlotte and Roanoke could be potential playoff opponents.
Zultek Adds To Career Best Point Streak:
Forward Matt Zutlek notched an assist in both games last weekend to extend his career best point streak to eight games. He has three goals and five assists during the streak, and it is the third time this season that he has had a point streak of four games or more. Zultek has 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) in his last 12 games.
St. Germain Solid In Victory At Wheeling:
Rookie goaltender David St. Germain won his second straight decision and helped the Titans bounce back from a home loss seven days earlier to Wheeling thanks to a 28-save performance in a 5-2 win last Friday night at the Wheeling Civic Center. He now is and is 7-1-2 in his last 10 outings. St. Germain has 2.51 goals-against average in his last nine outings and a .909 save percentage. Last season St. Germain was one of the top goaltenders in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey compiling a 32-13-4 record, with three shutouts and a 3.48 goals-against average.
Bertoli First To Join The â200 Club':
On Saturday night in Toledo, left wing Scott Bertoli appeared in his 200th career game for the Titans. The former Princeton Tiger standout continues to set the franchise mark in games played (200), career assists (143) and career points (182). Bertoli is approaching the Titans' single season assist (44) and points (65) marks that he set as a rookie during the 1999-2000 season. He notched his 20th goal of the season to give the Titans 1-0 first period lead in Friday night's win at Wheeling. Bertoli leads all Titans' players with 41 assists and is tied with Ben Stafford (currently in Providence-AHL) with 61 points.
Libby Posts Career Best Point Night:
All-Star defenseman Matt Libby was instrumental in the Titans 5-2 win at Wheeling on Friday night. He notched a career best three-point effort with a pair of goals and an assist in the win, and extended his point streak to season high four games. Libby has six points (2 goals, 4 assists) during the streak. In his first professional regular season game he netted his first two goals of the season in the third period as the Titans rallied for a 3-1 win over Reading on opening night (October 12th). Libby set career highs in goals (10), assists (20) and points (30) last season as a senior at Providence College and earned Hockey East Second Team All-Star honors.
O'Brien Steady Play A Constant This Season:
Defenseman Steve O'Brien's solid play has been a constant this season on the blue line for the Titans. He assisted on three of the Titans' five goals in the 5-2 win at Wheeling last Friday night, and is just one-point shy of matching his career best and the franchise record for points by a defenseman in a season (45) which he set last season. In 130 career games with the Titans, O'Brien has 20 goals, and 69 assists. His +31 rating season is tops on the team and would break the franchise record of +29 in a season set by Jed Whitchurch during the 1999-2000 season. Milestones On The Horizon:
- Marco Charpentier currently has a franchise record nine game-winning goals this season.
- Head Coach Peter Horachek is one win shy of 300 regular season wins for his career.
- Scott Bertoli is just two assists shy of 125, and three assists and four points away from matching the Titans' single season marks of 44 assists and 65 points.
- Kam White is one game shy of 175 for his Titans career.
