Idaho Wins 2nd Straight Northern Division Title

Boise, ID. – Wednesday night the Idaho Steelheads beat the Colorado Gold Kings 4-1 and with the win clinched their second straight Northern Division title in front of 4,852 fans at the BofA Centre. Kevin Smyth scored a pair of goals and Blair Allison was outstanding in net to propel Idaho to their franchise record tying 27th win on home ice. Idaho is a league best 43-14-7 with 93 points. The Steelheads continue their home stand with a pair of games this Friday and Saturday versus the Bakersfield Condors. For tickets call 331-8497 (TIXS).

Smyth (8) scored his first of the night at 13:04 of the first period to put Idaho ahead 1-0. In the second period the newest Steelhead Greg Bullock (1) made his mark just 16 seconds into the frame to put Idaho up 2-0. Colorado got on the board when Schmidt scored on a breakaway at 15:46 to make it a one-goal game after two periods.

In the third period Cal Ingraham (20) slid one home at 14:06 to make it 3-1. Smyth (9) put the game away with his second of the night at 16:06 on a rebound to finish the scoring. Allison turned aside all 15 Gold Kings shots in the frame to post his second straight strong outing. FINAL SCORE Idaho 4, Colorado 1.

Allison stopped 28 of 29 shots to improve to 33-10-5. Mark Gowan took the loss to fall to 0-3-0.
